3 things we learnt from Wizkid’s interview with US magazine 'The Fader'
1. WIZKID DOESN'T GET EXCITED BY AWARDS AND ACCOLADES:
Some of us already know this. Wizkid hardly attends award shows as he feels it’s nothing but a money making venture.
Wizkid has always maintained that he believes award ceremonies are organized by a bunch of people who come together to try and size up your talent. In The Fader interview, he confirmed this as he said: “My real fans know I am not really about that kind of thing.”
In 2015 alone, Wizkid has shunned 3 major award ceremonies home and abroad where he was nominated, namely: BET awards, MOBO awards and AFRIMA awards
2. WIZKID NEVER EXPECTED THE MASSIVE SUCCESS OF OJUELEGBA:
Right from the first listen of this song on the AYO album, it was always going to be an instant fan favourite.
The song has opened up the international market for Wizkid, as American celebrities such as Alicia Keys,
Swizz Beatz, Kylie Jenner have all acknowledged the track, while Toronto recording artiste, Drake hopped on the song for a remix.
Wizkid said: “I knew it was a good song but I didn’t expect it to blow up the way that it did.”
3. WIZKID IS A PERFECTIONIST:
Close associates of Wizkid have always noted that he is a very thorough type of artist and a hardworking act.
Wizkid said: “I’m a perfectionist, i can listen to the music now and tomorrow I’ll be like, ‘Yo, I feel we need to change this, and then
we have to go back to the drawing board".
Also, it should be noted that Wizkid is the first Nigerian superstar to be interviewed by The Fader.
