It’s quiet obvious that some Nigerian artistes actually blow without belonging to any record label, which is very amazing. In most cases, it’s usually dicey for an upcoming artiste to make it without being any under record label, first of all, getting the attention is usually zero from top producers, and then people tend not to give you much attention at the same time. But with time and being consistent will get your work recognized, even beyond one’s. 

Hence, let’s talk about some key musicians that struggled their way and made it without being signed under any record label in the industry. 


Small Doctor; Small Doctor is the king of street hip hop music in Nigeria, because he mix his music with a touch of Yoruba and English. He discover his talents at a very young age which made him dropped out of school. Small Doctor otherwise known as Omo iya teacher has done a lot of songs, he sang gbaguan, penalty, mosquito killer, etc. Small Doctor became accepted through the kind of music he sings, he got attention from his fans both home and abroad. He wasn’t any under record label while releasing all these hit songs. Small Doctor as really done a lot for himself to affect the music industry positively. 

Another person on my list is Idowest, Idowest is another street king of pop music to talk about, Idowest is always referring to himself as the king of “Shaku Shaku” after he was done releasing “Shepeteri” which did quiet well and also earned a lot of online streaming as well. His beginning of success began when he got signed to Davido’s music record label DMW, he was nominated in 2018 at the headies awards. 


Naira Marley whose real name is Azeez Fashola is one of the biggest artistes that has just come to give people another vibe of music in the industry. Naira Marley has done countless songs, he’s also being referred to as the “Marlian President” because of his lifestyle. People got to know Naira Marley the moment he released a hit single “Issa Goal” which he featured Olamide and Lil kesh, the song was made for the celebration of Nigeria winning the World Cup, but unfortunately, Nigeria loose at the World Cup final, he did a remix of the song which he featured Simi, Falz, Olamide and lil kesh respectively. 

Naira Marley became more popular after being alleged for being an internet fraudster, after his released from the cell. He did several hits mocking the police force and other unrelated crime issues happening in Nigeria, he became more accepted by his fans because he’s always blunt in his delivery. However Naira Marley made it this big without being signed under any record label.
